American Baseball Player and Russian School Girl Presented to Pres. Bush
Letter from the President

Dear Mrs. Karlinsky:

A belated thank-you for your kind message and the two porcelain dolls you sent. They are not only beautiful in craftsmanship, but also are a wonderful expression of friendship between Russia and the United States.

Barbara and I are happy to know that you have made your home in America, and we are grateful for your thoughtful remembrance.

Best wishes to you and to your family.

Sincerely,

About Polina Pressroom

PolinaI was born and raised in Moscow, Russia, and belong to the postwar generation. I am a food chemist and food technologist by education.

My love for books and theatre came from my memories of the unforgettable libraries, theatres and radio programs from my childhood. My collection of character dolls shows my gratitude for that golden time of my childhood.

Doll- and costume-making are my hobbies. From my early years I watched my mother made dresses for me and for my dolls. My love of sewing came from her. In Moscow I took classes of fashion design, and I use that knowledge for my hobby.

I have been creating the collection of the dolls characters over many years. Each character starts with long process of study about the character that stands behind the doll, and his or her historical time. I make all of dolls and their costumes myself.

My collection consists of character dolls and portrait dolls, made of porcelain, and ranging from 18 to 25 inches tall. A portrait doll is a doll made to look like the portrait of a real person. For example: a bridal doll made from a bridal portrait.

Portrait Dolls
In 1993 I opened Portrait Dolls studio. For 4 years I made porcelain dolls for many people, most of whom were brides. Images of happy and charming women during the happiest time of their lives were captured in the bridal dolls.
Portrait Dolls
During my first years of doll making I participated in many doll shows. My dolls have won numerous awards. I presented my collection of Character Dolls to various groups in churches, community centers, women's clubs, etc. ...
Portrait Dolls
I am interested in the lives of four legendary queens:
- Maria Antoinette - Queen of France
- Catherine the Great - Empress of Russia
- Maria Stuart - The Queen of Scotland
- Elisabeth - The Queen of England
